Look, I dont want people cussing, calling names, or any immature bullshit like that. But honestly, I think the Nissan Skyline GTR is the best 'tuners' car, ever. They compete with anything in a straight line, curves, road course, anything. Theyre always up there, ranked at the top. If anyone wanted a car, to tune, go fast, and turn sharp, I wouldnt understand why anyone would WANT to go with something other than the skyline. Setting all differences aside - so what, you drive a domestic car, a european car, theres no need to keep a closed mind on this. For people who dont agree, I really want facts and proof that something could be pushed harder, easier.

Well lets all stick together here and talk normally. I know when Nissan Skyline GTR comes to compare on some surten car the topic becomes suddently very sensitive which we all know what I'm talking about; well guys lets avoid that for the sake of harmony and intelligent conversation.
Many of the people in the US hasn't seen or isn't familiar with the Nissan Skyline GTR except for the rumors or reading in the magazines. Poor Nissan didn't do more effort to legilize the car in the west, especially in the US; if so the import tuners would've been alot more interesting and exciting.
For the Auto enthusiast Nissan Skyline GTR is an icon and has become legendary in Japan or outside Japan where the car is legilized. The car has become a huge success proven performer both on the streets and winning on race track. To make one thing clear here before accendently any missunderstanding accure the Nissan Skyline GTR is NOT the best vehicle in the world but what make it so special from the rest of the crowd? It's easy, let me explain: The Nissan Skyline GTR is one of the unique best high performance "whole package all around" sports car ever created before the new century (before 2000) capable to perform anywhere at anytime in all different condition with optimal traction computer controlled 4 wheels (RWD when you want & AWD when you need) which also explain the reasion why the car is so easy to drive at the limit and comes alive where most other would fall off the edges. It's for nothing the Nissan Skyline GTR is the most popular choice for the tuners world and the development for the aftermarket parts in Japan of all other Japanese cars in their own country, and don't forget UK, New Zealand and Austrailia.
Now sadly we all have to admit the Nissan Skyline GTR is outdated and been officially dead for 2 - 3 years. Today there're way other better new cars catching up or outperform the Nissan Skyline GTR in every catagory but keep in mind this first happen after the car has long time for years been officially dead. All we can hope is the NEW Infinity GTR in the 2007 can repeat the history from the older legends. Anyway since I own an R32 GTR with 5 others, sp00ln and skylinegtr34 living in Japan and seen for real what the car is capable of is not a joke.
Anyway for the Skyline GTR enthusiast I want to remaind you guys some nice videos of the car, enjoy!

yea the skyline is a good car for tuning and even though it may not be the greatest drag car its great on a road course and can usually do decent 1/4 times.
BUT i just dont understand why you would wanna mod a I6 when its so much easier to get equal power out of a V8??
its not necassarily the best car for "tuners".....i mod cars and i could care less what it does on a road course cuz im hundreds of miles away from one. but im 10min from a drag strip. i "tune" cars for 1/4 drag racing and for that a Grand National,F-body,Fox Body,Vega,Nova,Chevelle etc etc are better.
but i do agree its a great car if you want Road Course perfomance with decent 1/4 times

^^ If I'd live close to a drag strip and had special love for the drag racing, I'd bought muscle V8 car anyday, F-body would definatly be my first choice. I6 Supra or Skyline engines is typical turbo with higher revs, it's something in between mate, that's why Skyline GTR is a perfect "all around car" pretty good anywhere (straight line, curves, road course, anything) plus can perform decent time at a drag strip, that's good enough for me..

Yes the Skyline is a very storied sports car...honestly I would rather have an R32...even though I like the R33 and also the R34 V-spec...a little bit heavyweight..but head and shoulders above cars like the NSX...but everywhere but the US they are relatively cheap..in the US there are cars that are just as good of tuner cars for less money..also in America..bang for the buck is a big thing.

^going off what Germ said.......
i myself am not a huge fan of the skyline cuz it costs SO MUCH here in the USA. there is just so many cars that you could that are far better or could be made way better for equal money. parts are better expensive for them too. which is why you see a $90,000 800hp skyline in the states...but for that money you could make a camaro runs 8's or build a 1000hp viper......or a 900hp Vette.
BUT if the Skyline was cheap here like it is everywhere else i would prolly pick one up for a daily driver and slap on a bigger turbo and whatever it is they do and have a fun daily driver with 500hp.......then the Goat could be my garage queen and i could put in a boosted 402 LS2 and have around 850rwhp

R32 GTR is better for track use in my opinion coz its smaller and lighter weight and I would rather call it the genuen true hardcore Skyline racer. R34 GTR looks astonishing compared to the two older models include it's alot more high tech, earodynamic, chassis etc. In the US the car market and the policies are alot more different from the most countries in Europe or Asia, if I'm not wrong very few rich countries in the world sell cars as cheap as you do along with Japan. Sure there exist just as good tuner cars for less money but the question is for what, only straight line, only track or street use? As I said the Skyline GTR is unique coz it has a whole package all around car to perform decent in all different catagory. For the money combine with the uniqueness I think it's good enough, plus money isn't the issue for everyone.
Now it's very diffecult to talk about this since the Skyline GTR is not officially legal or imported to the US but as I said the import tuners world would be alot more interesting and different if the Skyline GTR were so. Anyway just look at the Supra in the US for example, is it famious, respected and a popular choice on the streets amoung tuners in general? If my impression is right I guess it is. Now think about this, how would Skyline GTR do if the car was officially legal and imported to the US? Keep in mind the Skyline GTR has higher respect in Japan amoung street tuners and famous for being Supra killer in almost every catagory, again how would it do in the US if it was legal? Anyway it's just an unimportant hypothetical question, nothing more..
Anyway a Skyline GTR for that much money in the US isn't one bit worth it but don't forget there's a reasion for the high cost coz it's eligal. As I said the story would've been alot more different if the car was legal and cheap to buy and tuned as a Supra. $85K for a Skyline R34 GTR in the US is too damn much, consider my personal financiel status I would personally never buy it for that much money if I lived in the US while you know you can get hundreds of other equal good tuner cars for less money; only the rich and the special previlage fan of the car may have the access for one in the US..

Great tunning car. Very rare and expensive in the U.S.. A very "complete" car focused mainly on handling but with great potential for everything else. My only complain is that its not that fast in a straight line. Why pay 2x-3x the amount of money to then get killed by a $30k Evo/STi or a $15-20k F-Body. Other than that... Just Great.

^^ Well mate you're a bit wrong about that. Street tuned Skyline GTR is one of the fastest straight line car on the streets in Japan. Skyline GTR is the world fastest AWD car in the world; no the EVO or the STi as AWD is not faster then a Skyline GTR. It's not uncommon to counter 9 seconds fully road legal street tuned Skyline GTR's in Japan, even in the UK, that is not slow to my book but their speciality is at longer runway acceleration from 0 up to 190 mph in just between 13 - 20 seconds. The Lemon JUN R33 Skyline GTR accelerate 0 - 190 mph in 12 seconds. Let me show you a link: (NOTE on the 2 last video link below right click save target as to watch the video)
www.exvitermini.com - Video archive of street tuned Skyline GTR's acceleration to 190 mph
Kismo R34 GTR with stock RB26 buttom end accelerate to 190 mph. NOTE no drag radiels, no modification done to the internals, just an RB26 buttom end
Fully road legal street tuned Skyline R32 GTR on 1/4 mile run in the UK (VS. Civic)
The same road legal street tuned R32 GTR attempt top speed run & reaches 200 mph on short runway (old short airstrip) in the UK

thats cuz they dont have many vipers,vette's,f-bodys, and muscle cars in japan.
i agree that some highly tuned skylines are very fast in the 1/4(9 sec)
but the american muscle cars are street driven too and they run even faster....of course they arnt as good on a road course.
as far as the 1/4 mile is conserned you cant beat american V8 muscle cars cuz thats what they are made for.
as far as OVERALL performance yea i think the skyline is great

^^ YES American muscle V8 is faster on the 1/4 mile, I don't deny that one bit (but at longer runway up to 200 mph I don't know). In this case I was talking about AWD as fully road legal street tuned car. Skyline GTR is the world fastest "AWD" vehicle (not RWD), that's why I mainly quoted ROBOCOP EVO or STi as AWD is not faster then a Skyline GTR on the straight line (which I mean there's alot more common 9 seconds Skyline GTR on the streets then it does exist 9 seconds EVO or STi), but then again Skyline GTR is not faster then RWD muscle V8 car at a dragstrip (but on the street or road course I don't know)..

Even If i lived in Japan and they were cheaper I still wouldnt get a skyline for road course cause I just dont like how AWD handles, I love RWD and would have an RX-7 (new gen) old ones look gay, new one looks cool though, but i dont think it would be a good daily driver unless I riped out the rotary and swaped in a LS2 however I would probably have to own another car which would be a mid 90's supra(the nice looking one) for everyday driving cause those rotary's sound like too much up-keep for daily driving.

^^ There're two different types of Skyline, AWD GTR or RWD GTT (GTS-t). The Skyline GTR isn't fully AWD vehicle either as many tends to missunderstand. The car is both RWD and AWD depends on which situation the system decides best to engage. In another word it's simply a vehicle with the benifit of both system. The AWD only engages at acceleration, corner exit acceleration or when traction is lost at the rear wheels to help the traction plus reduce/counter heavely oversteer at the curves. RWD is fully engaged only at higher speed on the straight line where no longer AWD is neccessary. Daylie driven on the streets the car is alot more on RWD then AWD. The computer can also be setup for your personal preferencies, mid ranged torque, more to the front or a fully compleet RWD fun.

You have to respect your roots, and the Skyline was at the front of the import tuner movement. An 11-second Civic driver hating on Skylines would be kinda like a Metallica fan hating on Led Zeppelin (sort of).
