Matthew, no doubt man, you can do anything to a car, but then in the end, it's still the same car it is underneath. Don't compare a Chevy to a Porsche. American quality is on par with Korean cars, they both simply can't make quality cars.

guys which one is father the c5 or the z06?
  - connor21 on Thursday, December 19, 2002
Auto X SCCA has made a new class just for the Z06, that has got to say something???
  - Dantheman1_3 on Wednesday, January 29, 2003
these types of conversations always amaze me. lets get a couple of things clear,1)the porsche is not 800hp.if it was it would have taken that vette my 20 car lengths, this 996tt has 501hp and 518 lbs of torque, this guy has a dyno of this car at hobbystage.net check it out under porsche.2)I had a z06 and traded it for a 996 gt3 car, accleration is similar,in terms of time.
  - vette1299 on Wednesday, February 05, 2003
however the handling and car attitude are very different, the vette(i have owned 3 including a highley moded zr1)you need to nurse and counter steer thru the turns, and the porcshe just need a little ease off the gas and is much more forgiving than the vette.3)gts 1-3,racing is split by displacment,so the vettes and porsche do not run the same class.gts vette is7.4 liter vs.996 3.6

FACT - the 996TT Porsche (un-modified) is the fastest 1/4 mile production car in the world - ran average of 11.96 over three runs. Let me repeat - it beat EVERY OTHER PRODUCTION CAR ! But may now be beaten by Porsche's new GT3 Clubsport - suggested 0-62.5mph in 4.2sec !? Got to be quicker...
  - oceanic on Thursday, July 17, 2003
Maybe if the damn z06 would stay off of his rev-limiter... he did it in the first 2 gears... damn learn to drive if you want to beat the best. And yes, by best I mean Porsche.
  - Solo2tib on Thursday, December 11, 2003
the guy who said the 996TT is the fastest car in the 1/4 might be kidding, but if he isn't, then he's a total moron. the fastest time I have seen for the 996TT is 12.4. the Enzo, Pagani Zonda, McLaren F1, Carrera GT, Dodge viper SRT-10, are all faster than the 996TT. There are also many other cars that beat it stock, but I figured that you get the picture.
  - Esxwrxguy on Sunday, January 11, 2004
Say what you want about the corvette, I'll take three of them please to your one 996. Bang for the buck, nobody can argue what you get for the money with a corvette. In fact, as far as sports cars go, you will have to almost double $$ to buy a car that will out perform the Vette. Even the somewhat famous 911 turbo (at $120+ / copy) could barely outperforme a Z06 and only on the track.
  - belavign on Tuesday, March 16, 2004
As far as GM not making a quality car...You don't get to be the number 1 auto maker in the world by producing crap cars. I will not argue that they make the best car, but then again, you need to specify what class of car you are comparing it to. As far as sports cars go, pound for pound they do make the best one out there.
  - belavign on Tuesday, March 16, 2004
Reading up top, it discusses me unintelligent people making comments that have no justification. I would like to completely bash the offender but its not worth it. Compare price vs stock vs options vs LEATHER..WTF .. give me a break. I understand some of these people are young and partial to cars but grow up and give kudos.
  - crowley211 on Tuesday, March 23, 2004
Oh..btw..The F40 (from experience) runs between 11.6 and 11.88 @ anywhere between 122-125mph. This moron is bugging me. Good statements though up top on naming other cars that crush the 996TT.
  - crowley211 on Tuesday, March 23, 2004
The ZO6 has handled as well if not better than the 996TT in every test I've seen. I'd take 3 of the 'vettes over the 996TT too, but if I could only have one, I'd obviously choose the Porsche!
  - jackz28 on Friday, March 26, 2004
That's my car and it was running 440RWHP when I raced the Z06. The Z06 driver was so impressed, he bought my car. His Z06 is for sale now!
  - rmrmd1956 on Tuesday, May 04, 2004
Okay, let me clear up one thing. A stock Z06 produces 405hp in 2002 03 04, right? And this Porche produces 440hp, as the "supposed" owner says, but, has anyone stopped to think what type of horsepower figures these are? The z06 is BHP (flywheel) and the Porche is RWHP (at the rear wheels) that means the porche is probabbly producing about 500 plus horsepower at the flywheel, right?
  - Protouring73camaro on Wednesday, July 28, 2004
...... also the Porche weighs less and has better traction. Ohh, this was a fair heads up race, yeah right. Spend 4 Grand on the Z06 and the porche is dust.
  - Protouring73camaro on Wednesday, July 28, 2004
Also, that porche was only a couple cars ahead, it's funny how all of these modified Turbo and NOS cars think they are fast because they beat a Stock vette. Go find a lingenfelter twinturbo car to race and get a video of that!!!!!! If that guy really sold his Z06 because he lost a race, what a wuss, spend a littel money, you'll beat him sensless.
  - Protouring73camaro on Wednesday, July 28, 2004
Caliagents88 is a moron!!!
  - bettyd on Friday, February 18, 2005
"it discusses me unintelligent people," crowley211 You are clearly an incoherent moron who makes no sense. Discusses and disgusts are two entirely different words with entirley different meanings. Next time you want to sound intelligent over the internet write coherrently and keep a dictionary close by.
  - John01CL-S on Sunday, May 15, 2005
Point to point the 996 TT is the worlds fastest production car. ltd hyper cars like the Enzo/Zonda etc are not off the showroom production cars, furthermore on most tracks the 996 would stay in touch, in the wet it's out in front. For quality, reliability and all round devestating performnace this car is unmatched. BTW if you want to talk about your modded vettes try the 911 Gemballa 750 Evo...
  - mark69 on Wednesday, June 01, 2005
Who ever said the an SRT-10 Dodge Viper could beat a 996 TT is kidding right? Straight line they are an even thing but get a few bends into the mix and the Viper/Porsche comparison is laughable. In Oz and the UK every motoring mag I have read basically says the 996 Turbo is the worlds best car.
  - mark69 on Wednesday, June 01, 2005
996 Blows, give me a vette and half the difference in price and I will wipe anything on the road and track out.
  - swcowger on Friday, July 29, 2005
swcowger Blows too.
  - Vegas996tt on Thursday, September 01, 2005
People that own Porsche because they value performance and reliability. Vette owners value the best bang for your bucks. Believe me if we think vettes are any good we would go out and buy two.
  - vincebao on Friday, October 28, 2005
ok so most of us have fast cars right my self i own 2 fine gm products a 200 z28 and 01 zo6 making about 465 to the rear on cam intake exhaust ext. i see alot of talk on these sites and never any one who wants to lay rubber on the road ill prove i can beat a 996 im in hawaii on oahu just say when and where no lipsevice here just one yellow z06 ready to eat another horse.
