Good car but wrong competition. NSX? 996 GT3? SL55? More like Ford GT and 997 Turbo.

goodness!!
  - fireamp on Saturday, July 08, 2006
Thats a fine car but it is not as practical as an M3 nor as refined, good video though.
  - Matthew Langton on Saturday, July 08, 2006
I'd argue the competition isnt too off...MB doesnt have anything that really competes...and the vid was prolly sorta older, TURBO 997 not being out at time of shoot...996 GT3 is pretty tough none the less...
  - fsoberay on Saturday, July 08, 2006
997 turbo wasn't out when that thing was filmed.
  - clee19821013 on Saturday, July 08, 2006
Hmm.. I don't think that NSX-R is stock, BM tested it before http://www.nsxsc.com/r/drag.wmv and it ran a 12.8, and it looks like they ran it a lot harder than they did in this video.. and .3 seconds is a BIG difference, just had to point that out.
  - Neeseius on Saturday, July 08, 2006
most of this video was already on the website,
  - BuxMw on Sunday, July 09, 2006
whats amazing to me is that the GT3 is down 100hp to the f430 and it still manages to keep up. i love porsches.
  - BuxMw on Sunday, July 09, 2006
This video is older then my grandma, and shes nearly 92.
  - djfolgerz1 on Sunday, July 09, 2006
Didn't know the vid was that old. Still, they could've used a Turbo S or GT2 instead of a GT3. I simply don't see the point of comparing $100k GT cars to this $200k 480hp supercar.
  - maq330 on Sunday, July 09, 2006
I'm sorry but what's with the crappy video these days, "Best Motoring" ? they'd do anything to let their domestic car look better on stats and all that "theory" to explain how 0.2 gram of weight would make a difference, where're em Top Gear and 5th Gear please ?
  - Ckeleganz on Sunday, July 09, 2006
First of all in the Ferrari you have a stereo, clima control, leather and so on. The Porsche is totally stripped out, so of course it can keep up. The 997 Turbo would have been a much better comparison. And secondly, Mercedes actually has a car to compete, the CLK DTM AMG. This Merc would simply destroy all of the cars tested in this vid!!!
  - Schneehaesli on Sunday, July 09, 2006
ferrari f430 not as refined as an M3????? I agree best motoring is extremely bias and they often run modified JDM cars.
  - beef on Sunday, July 09, 2006
CLK DTM AMG cost around the same as SLR...
  - clee19821013 on Sunday, July 09, 2006
Great Vid!, F430 is a great car for everyday/track use but for raw driving expreince and balance the GT3 ownz....
  - parky7 on Sunday, July 09, 2006
And it's still funny how the SL55 performed in the "full throttle at 200km/h" test!!! That's what I call power! Other thing that amazes me: How old ist the 996 GT3? And it still kept up with the 430. Now take the 997 GT3 and it'll put quite a :-( at the faces of Ferrari's engeneers!!!
  - Schneehaesli on Sunday, July 09, 2006
ugh japs
  - jake_falt on Sunday, July 09, 2006
get both, love both
  - LamboAston on Sunday, July 09, 2006
Schneehaesli- even though the gt3 is "stripped out" (look closely at the vid see the aftermarket stereo)its only down a hundred pounds to the 430 so again mister "of course its going to keep up" does a hundred pound weight advantage negate a hundred horse power disadvantage.
  - BuxMw on Sunday, July 09, 2006
Schneehaesli-the clk dtm amg is about as much as a mercedes as the slr is which is saying that other than that three pointed star not alot is being provided by the "other guys" at stutgart
  - BuxMw on Sunday, July 09, 2006
these vids are stooopid, where is the good shit? *cough* topgear *cough* or at least somethin exciting to watch
  - jake_falt on Sunday, July 09, 2006
why does it save it as a ASP file? How do i save it in a format that i can watch? Ive never had this problem on this site until a few months ago.
  - micginish on Sunday, July 09, 2006
FYI TOP GEAR AND 5TH GEAR ARE ON A BREAK. NO NEW SHOWS UNTIL FALL I THINK SO STOP ASKING FOR THEM!
  - Airbus39 on Monday, July 10, 2006
Micginish are you using firefox? This site is alot more friendly towards IE based browsers like Avant(which I love)
  - glynn50 on Monday, July 10, 2006
They say this GT3 clubsport is 900kg, now that is LIGHT! Alot lighter than a normal GT3, and which is already lighter than an F430
  - glynn50 on Monday, July 10, 2006
thank god they didn't show the Skyline R34. the most overrated car (stock vs. stock). and IF they did run the r34 it wouldn't have been stock just like that nsx-r wasn't. i always feel the jdm cars are "helped" more than just a little. pretty soon BM will have us thinking the super old 3.2L NSX will beat the Veyron from 0-150.
  - lankyrcs on Monday, July 10, 2006
F430 not as refined as M3? Not designed to be but is a heck of a lot faster. Isn't that the point?
  - scty on Tuesday, July 11, 2006
I do not understand how you people compare apples to oranges, I mean a Ferrari F430 costs like 1/3 of the Merc SLR or CLK DTM, porche GT3 and so on. I would go for the F430 everytime {I love Ferrari for there road cars, but have a double feeling about them because I never support them in F1 (I hate michael shumacher :) } Like jeremy (Clarcson) said about Ferrari: If you buy one you get so much
  - Demaarten on Tuesday, July 11, 2006
... you get so much more, they have a goldish glow around them, that is why every Ferrari whanabee has to be so much better.
  - Demaarten on Tuesday, July 11, 2006
have to correct myself, the GT3 is cheaper then I thougt, but still, here in belgium you see a porsche on every corner on the street, not that special IMO.
  - Demaarten on Tuesday, July 11, 2006
Demaarten - fuck off.
