Big improvement over the current hideous 5 series. But BMWs in general are not what they used to be in terms of quality.

Big improvement? You must be kidding!

No more good in terms of quality? You must be kidding! I mean French cars fall apart still inside the dealer ship, American cars fall apart right after you've taken the first corner and Korean cars fall apart whenever they like.

And (all) German cars are commonly known for their proper build quality.

No dear friends I'm quite serious. The current 5 series is hideous and this newer one is much better looking and better proportioned and better suited for it's customer base and their intended use. To go on about the 5 seies being a thrill of a drive is just marketing hoopla, it's a midsize premium brand sedan. As for quality, please notice how many years the older BMWs have lasted and how many the current ones can take and you'll notice the obvious decline in quality. And the poor quality of other manufacturers doesn't automatically improve BMWs' and the generalized and percieved quality of German cars. Porsche, as an example, has great quality in their 911 line but bad quality in their Cayenne line. (Buttons' paint scrapes off, hydraulic suspension faulty, etc.) german cars are not what they used to be in terms of quality but the manufacturers are great at perpetuating the legend.

Xotica, cannot disagree with you more. I agree that the new interior is better, but not the exterior.

during the "downsizing" era of the early 90's quality went down hill for some, say the frist C class for example, but with the exception of lexus, german cars are always better then korean cars and Ford's.
looks like a grown up 3 series & makes the current one look REALLY outdated...

You need an update kid, Korean cars nowadays are some of the most reliable you can buy.
Do what woman do and go cook or clean something, you dont belong to cars.

sbatiuk: I can respect that :) That is a matter of taste after all. mkuroglu, barmstrong: Thank you. I figure this being such a great site for gearheads it deserves better discussion than "1st" and "my car is better than your car". Thanks again.

I fell asleep in that video... not because of the now more sedate styling of the 5, but that report was just soooo boring :(
