The S2000 lost because it's wing wasn't big enough.

what are you talking about?? what is honda cars exempt from the rules of physics.. the more torque the car has the faster it goes.. whether its a honda or a "unadvanced" muscle car- just to let ya kno i dont think a vette or viper is unadvanced.. let alone ferraris and lambos.. u kno they have big trq to, so its not just the older muscle cars that got the torque, its everywhere besides japan

the commentator from this video and from the food network show iron chef... anything in common? golden, golden stuff

most american cars make their peak hp at about 3,500 all the way to about 5,500 and torque is normaly a flat rate from about 2,000 to 4,500, hondas do NOTHING from idle to 6,000 then they make marginal power from then on only b/c of vtec.. and another thing, is their a way to change vtec to kick in around 3,500?? then it would be a better motor, or better yet, an on-off button in the car

"reiliable street engine that can rev to 9k, much less with high torque!" sentra_dude>> ARE YOU INSANE, how in any way shape or form can you call 153 ft/trq high torque.. dum ass
- philjr on Saturday, August 09, 2003
|
true.. on the S2000, the VTEC kicks in at 6k... you can't lower it much more than 5000 on any vtec-equipped car because the high-lift cam profile will be too aggressive for that low RPM range and the car will perform worse...
and really guys... the whole v-8 vs i-4 battle is really overrated.. people do things to do them.. so quit bitchin, choose your path, and quit being judgemental.

Economical or not, I'd still love to be able to rev an engine to 9000 RPM. I get giddy when I rev my motor close to 7,000. Jesus... 2,000 more RPM... Wow.
- Antian26 on Saturday, August 09, 2003

lowering when vtec kicks in would do a lot more harm then good. its obvious that none of you understand the reasons for vtec and why it to kicks in when it does. you shouldn't treat it like its a turbo kicking in to late to help out

Kramer2123 - since when does vtec kick in at 7000rpm on a car that has a rev limiter at 8500rpm? i know that the stock civic si vtec kicks in at 5700rpm, not 7000rpm. im not sure about the accord R or the s2000 but i highly doubt either of them wait that long to kick in considering where the revs stop.

"I'd like to see any of the big 3 make a reiliable street engine that can rev to 9k, much less with high torque!"
Ever seen a Mopar 340 before dumbass? Got one in the garage with the 6AL set to 8500rpm, engine dynoed at 590lbft. Let's see a fucking fart can econo box do that.

Can you say vtec = overrated ricer crap?

I've seen plenty of Hondas Vtec and non Vtec destroy muscle cars at the track. If you don't appreciate the 4 cylindar tuning potential of Honda motors then you are just plain biased and not much of an enthusiast.

There are plenty of 300+ 6's: I.E. BMW M 3.2 liter 6, 333hp, Porsche 3.6 flat 6, 315 hp (IIRC). Lots of others as well.

Man, you guys are going too deep into this VTEC thing all it is, is the "varible timing emmisions control" and all it really does it make emissions and everything EPA standards in the higher RPM's just so the car dosnet crap out in the high RPM's but it makes no power at all just the motor makes the power in the upper rpms is all and it makes a cool sound thats all

first off, I am a honda/acura tuner I have my own light chassis turbo honda, with a small 1.8 litre b18b (non-vtec engine) and it had good torque before i added the turbo... I know for all you muscle fanatics, looking at just numbers, my engine swap, for less than 2 grand by the way, wonly 145 hp, and 127 lbs torque stock. Thats not alot of torque

When the NSX made its debut in 89-90, it was superior to Ferrari's Testarossa during that time period.
Don't forget people would rather pay more for an Import because of better build quality and reliablity (in most cases). People are too naive here and just base everything on power.

omg, was that civic straight walking the s2k on the straight-away? simply amazing!

Just so everybody has no doubt, the S2000's VTEC kicks in at 6000rpm not 7000rpm. It also has lots of power before the VTEC kicks in.
- SPDRCER on Monday, August 18, 2003

you can lower ur vtec kick-in with a vtec controller that u gotta splice into the output cables that go to ur ecu. i'm not sure if they make a US spec vtec controller.. the one i help put into my friend's car was all in japanese.

NeonNut, do you even now what VTEC is? VETC stands for "Variable valve Timing and lift Electronic Control". It's not for emissions only. It is used for emissions on the minivan and CRV, but performance on the cars. It's basically two cams in one. The higher profile in the larger rpm's where you need it, and not in the lower range to prevent it eating all your gas and making a lopey idle. PWNED

thank you r3dline and 91sileighty. theese people know NOTHING about vtec. also, this is my first time looking at this site. people degrade hondas so much on here. hondas are awesome cars and can be made into very quick cars, especially on the track.
